In Frankfurt you will find a large number of important German institutions; among them is the University Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universitat, then several museums, most of them along the river Main, on the so-called Museum shore (Museumsufer), and the huge botanical garden called Palmengarten, which houses among other things an impressive collection of palm trees. The best-known museums are Städelsches Kunstinstitut und Städtische Galerie and Naturmuseum Senckenberg. Other notable museums are Museum für moderne Kunst (Museum of Modern Art) and the Schirn Kunsthalle (Schirn Art Gallery). The European Central Bank headquarters is in Frankfurt.
Important touristic attractions: the Dome, or St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral (Dom Sankt Bartholomäus) is a Gothic cathedral built in the XIV-XV centuries, Römer Hall, which consists of three Gothic neighboring houses, which were purchased by the local council in 1405 from a family of rich merchants, Saint Paul Church (Paulskirche), a relatively new church and the famous “Old Opera” in Frankfurt (Alte Oper).
There are lots of good Frankfurt hotels, many of them right in the city centre at very affordable rates. You will definitely have no problem finding a good one.
