Day 6 – May 18, 2022
Camel Ride
We woke up at 5 am as it was still dark outside. I exited my room to see a small desert fox wandering around the center of the camp. We hiked up the slope to exit our camp, and our camels were waiting for our morning sunrise camel ride. We spent about 20 minutes riding our camels to a viewpoint where we could watch the sunrise. As the sun came up, the colors of the sand and rocky hills changed to a vibrant red color. It was a fun optional activity to do the camel ride in the desert and enjoy the cooler morning air of the desert before breakfast.
Aqaba – Red Sea
We left early in the morning from our Bedouin camp and were at our hotel in Aqaba by 10 am.
Following a short rest, we went to our motor yacht for an afternoon snorkel excursion in the Red Sea. Aqaba is Jordan’s resort community facing Israel’s city of Eliat. Within a short distance to the South, it also borders Saudi Arabia. We motored down the coastline to snorkel in two different coral reef areas. The fan corals were unlike anything I had seen before. The colors of the coral and fish were a great way to spend the afternoon. Onboard we enjoyed lunch between the snorkeling stops and plenty of water and soft drinks.
