Waves Crashing Over The Deck

The last three days on our trip to Santa Barbra have been super rocky. Luck for us we have a skipper on board named Ron who taught us how to properly manage the sails Because the wind got up to 35 knots we took our main sail down and rolled up our jib so we were only using half of it and still we were going 7 knots or more.
The first day of our trip from to Santa Barbra was pretty shocking since we were used to our smooth harbor in Alameda. With huge swells jarring the boat I actually though I was going to die a couple of times. On the first day everyone was so sick (except for Dad, Ron and I) that they slept for the whole day and we got to take turns steering and tacking.
That night Mom introduced the idea of everyone doing a two hour night watch, I took the 3-5am watch and just tried to stay warm in Ron’s weather proof blanket he let us use.
By the second day most of us got used to the boat surfing down waves and seeing waves crash up onto our deck even though we had to put on harnesses whenever we left the cockpit.
The night of the last day we pulled into a marina in Santa Barbra at 2 in the morning and finally could sleep on steady water.
