In an incredible (divinely miraculous) turn of events, we have sold our sailboat. Alyssa saw a posting in one of the marinas looking for a catamaran meeting the specifications for “Far & Away” and after only two days, we came to an agreement on the sale of our beloved catamaran. As we had already purchased airline tickets departing from Sydney, Australia we are tied to our itinerary to some degree. Our boat’s new owners to be are from New Zealand however, and so they understandably do not want the boat to continue the journey to Australia. The winds this time of year are not favorable from Australia to New Zealand so we have agreed to take our sailboat to Vanuatu where the new owner will continue on with our sailboat to New Zealand.
So in this incredible turn of events, we will be flying from Vanuatu to Brisbane, Australia at the beginning of November before making our way down to Sydney and flying home. Unfortunately this leaves us without our year long home (sailboat) for the three weeks while we visit the land downunder so we are going to have to quickly figure out some alternate plans. We are already going through withdrawals thinking about parting with our beloved home on the seas. I can’t imagine what it will be like to not get up in the night to look at the unobstructed starlight, snoozing on the deck, watch the painted sunsets or listen to the oceanfront waves lapping up against the hull. Will the adjustment to life on shore be harder than getting used to life on the seas?
If you have any suggestions for us on what we should do while in Australia we are open to them! If you know some stellar suggestions for homes, hotels, transportation or attractions for a family of 9, tell us about them!
I feel like I have been on this adventure with you. I don’t think I have missed a post. My biggest suggestion is that you stay longer in Vanuatu and shorter in Australia. The islands are the best. Tanna is best to me of course, but each one is distinct. I always wanted to go to Santo. and the main island where Port Vila is.
