Can you Sleep with a Constant Beeping Sound?

Safety on the water is extremely important and there are a number of features set up to help with this. Unfortunately at Half Moon Bay, one of the safety features is an audible muffled beacon or fog horn. As a result of this audible beacon we have the opportunity to listen to a low toned beep that is triggered to go off every 10 seconds. If you are planning a trip to Half Moon Bay and you have a hard time going to sleep with sounds around you, I would highly recommend purchasing some ear plugs. I’m sure over time you must get used to the audible beeping sound but the tranquillity of the water in my mind deserves a much subtler noise.

This evening we are anchored again in about 9 feet of water not far from shore. As the wind blows with 15 to 20 knots gusts from shore it makes me somewhat nervous. I know we do have to trust our anchor but I just have to trust that we did a good job the first time because the rock piled breakwater is not far away. It’s a bit of an interesting experience to be floating out on the water and to feel the boat swaying from side to side as the wind changes direction slightly and pivots the boat around the anchor. I keep looking out at the lights on the horizon and can’t help but notice them moving as the boat swings around slightly. I sure hope I will be able to sleep tonight.

When we went sailing my two worst enemies were the tide and the wind. Know how you feel. Sleep well. Dad
